The Machine
The 988 Wheel Loader is designed for use on jobs where size, power and speed make a difference. At 63,000 lbs and 300 flywheel HP provided by a D343 Cat diesel engine displacing 893 cu inches, the 988 is a work-horse created to produce results.

Features that made this machine a favorite of miners and quarry men included: a wide choice of buckets, 29 ½ tons of break-out force, 40,000 lbs static tipping load rating, short turning with articulated steering, long wheel-base stability, single-lever power shifting and speeds to 21.6 mph forward and reverse.

The 988 is 28’3” from bumper to bucket and 12’1” from ground to exhaust pipe.

The Model
Our 988 is a precise 1:48 scale model of the original that was produced by Caterpillar during the 1960’s. Many of the features found in the real machine are now details in our die-cast classic. Details we have included are: fully articulating body and bucket, removable cab, functional rear suspension and fenders,, a detailed engine compartment and of course all the markings and paint as accurate as the real thing.

The total number of models produced is limited to 2500.
