The Toy Among
the first toys to carry the Caterpillar name were a series of cast iron
tractors produced by Arcade in the early 1930's. In an era when mechanical wonders were
a national focus, these toys were a welcome delight to young operators.
Equipped with Caterpillar tracks and a rugged cast iron body, these
tractors were the preferred choice in sandboxes and back yards across
America - just as the real machines were in the field.
Although
those toys were extremely tough, very few survived the combined rigors
of hard play and time. The remaining few are understandably among
the most sought after vintage Caterpillar collectibles. In recognition
of those legendary toys, we have created a unique cast iron toy tractor
that at over 5lbs in weight and 6.5 inches in length, perfectly compliments
the original toys. Styled after an early Cat Twenty with curved fenders,
our solid cast iron and stamped steel tractor looks as though it could
have rolled down the factory assembly line nearly a century ago. Features
that are unique to our new tractor include stamped steel engine covers
that open to reveal a detailed Caterpillar four cylinder gas engine
with a radiator fan and belt. All of the steel pieces, including the
linked steel tracks, exhaust stack and updated grill, are brightly
plated to mimic the look of the originals. A solid cast and plated
driver who operates the authentic vertical clutch levers is the finishing
touch on this toy. While our tractor looks similar to the original toys produced by Arcade,
all of the features on our Caterpillar tractor are entirely unique
to ensure that while it is complementary to the original toys,
it will not be mistaken for one. There is no question this toy will be a welcome and treasured addition to
any collection of antique toys or Caterpillar memorabilia. |
