The Machine
Faced with the challenge of creating a dozer bigger than the D9 that could compete with the larger and more powerful machines available from other manufactures, the engineers assigned to the D10 project overcame the power input limitations of a conventional drive train by developing what is now the most recognizable part of Caterpillar dozers, the high drive system.  Their proof of concept was built using lawnmower parts and was capable of pulling a full size Jeep.

The final design of the tractor provided for 12’9” of track on the ground and a track gauge of 8’4” for superior traction and side hill stability. With the 19’ wide U-blade it could push 35 yards and penetrate the ground up to 70” with a 7’ tall single shank ripper.

With an operating weight of 190,000 lbs and a Cat D348 turbocharged V-12 producing 700 HP to provide propulsion, the CAT D10 Track-Type Tractor was largest and most powerful dozer in the world when it was introduced in 1977.   With the capacity to make directional changes under full load conditions and reduced wear in major components the D10 was a groundbreaker both in the field and in the machine lineup for Caterpillar.

The Model
After more than two years of development and fine tuning, our 1:48 scale, die-cast D10 track type tractors have been completed and are ready to join the growing ranks of our legendary "Vintage Die-Cast" models.

Equipped with a U- blade, single ripper shank and enclosed operator’s cab, our model measures 8 1/4” long, 3 ¾” tall and just over 4 ½”wide.   Loaded with the details that help set CCM models apart - including individually-linked, free-rolling tracks, working track tensioners, functional bogeys, grab handles, a detailed operators cab, fire extinguisher, three position adjustable ripper shank, hydraulic lines and work lights - and strictly limited to 1,500 models - these are sure to disappear quickly.

As was the case with the real machines, we've configured a group of these models with a push /cushion blade.  Used to push load large scrapers such as the Cat 666, the push arms were trunnion mounted to the main frame for strength and the blade was equipped with a recoil mechanism to help absorb impact loads.  With the recent announcement of our upcoming 666 this version will surely be a popular addition to any collection

The production of this special model will be limited to 1,000 pieces.
